Better Look Out

Children wake up,
Hold your mistake up,
Before they turn the summer into dust.
Arcade Fire - Wake Up

"Mr. Turrek?" A female's voice called from the hall outside Hallan's cell.

"Ahh, Sarah?" He said barely raising his head.

"Do you mind if I come in?" She said while deactivating the forcefield.

"Not at all,"

Doctor Peyroux was wearing more sensible clothing today, a pair of black pants along with a white blouse and white jacket. The jacket was long and reached her knees. She sat down in the chair and crossed her legs, "Lets pick up where you left off yesterday," she began.

"Ahh well, about that. I kinda led you on," Hallan sat up and flung his legs over the side of the bed.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean that's the end of the story, effectively,"

"How can that be the end of the story?" She asked, putting a rather strong emphasis on the word that.

"You see, when I missed meeting Pashir the next day, he came looking for me. He picked me up in the desert the day after that. I was pretty badly hurt, and he took me to the hospital. The hospital patched me up and turned me over to Oasis's CONCORD Commander,"

"What happened to your shuttle?" She asked cocking her head to the side.

"Probably sabotage, didn't have the time to find out who. I missed out on my contact regardless,"

Suddenly a voice came from outside his door, "It's gotten alot more complicated than that," The CONCORD Commander walked into the cell with Hallan, flanked by both of his guards, "Ma'am," He said facing the Doctor, "I just got a call from the University of Caile. Imagine my surprise when they said they'd finally found a suitable psychiatrist to send our way,"

Sarah stood up and chuckled to herself. She walked towards the Commander with her head hung low, and then instantly moved her hands from her side to his throat, with a knife suddenly in her hand that even Hallan had missed, "Drop your stuns, both of you," She said to the two guards.

Both threw their pistols to the ground.

Hallan scrambled across the floor and picked both of them up, being sure to give her the time to tell him not to. He pointed one at the Commander as Sarah stepped back towards him. She took the other one and also pointed it at the Commander.

"This is going on your record," He sputtered out to the two of them.

"You don't scare me," She said softly, "And his security status is not going to be any worse for wear, I imagine,"

She motioned for Hallan to move towards the door. All three of the CONCORD officers moved towards them at once, Hallan fired at the Commander, while Sarah dropped the one on their left. Hallan's gun fired once more before the other guard got more than a foot farther.

"Very good," The woman said with a smile, "I can see why they wanted you,"

"Who wanted me?" He said with a raised eyebrow as they both exited the cell.

"Probably not a good idea to talk about it now," She added as she activated the cell's forcefield.

"You know you're not a bad shot yourself," He said as they boarded the Harpy.

"Flattery? I knew I liked you," She said, climbing on board behind him.

"I'm serious, you knocked that guy in the head from fifty feet,"

"It's a gift,"

"From who?"

"The Gallente Military," She said quietly.

"Why would the Gallente be interested in me?" Hallan was legitimately confused, he'd never once contacted the Gallente, and had only mentioned his interest to a few people in passing.

"Because the Minmatar aren't. Thank your friend Alfroren," She hit the latch button for the door and it shut.

Hallan looked around the ship, it was an old design, not built for capsuleers, that meant at least two crew members. He climbed the narrow staircase just behind the woman and both of them arrived in the cockpit. He looked at the controls lovingly, "This ship's a thing of beauty,"

"This ship is your new ride,"

"Couldn't get a capsule piloted one out here?"

"Couldn't spare the capsuleer, and besides, I'm supposed to keep an eye on you,"

"Oh? Where are we going then?"

"We're going to get your security status up the old fashioned way,"

Hallan closed his eyes and covered his face with his left hand, "Syndicate?"

"Syndicate,"

"God damn it," He said with a pause, "You're lucky you're hot,"

Inglorious

I was just passing through a system when I caught this gem of a conversation and I decided to add a comment of my own.

Some Dude > owned by a kessie
Some Other Dude > and a basilisk
Some Other Dude > gf, much fun friends
Some Dude > what you making things up
Some Dude > there was no bassie
Me > Nobody cares. Shut up.

I loved the Bastards, but it was a bit taxing at times to hold my tongue.

I like being able to speak my mind again.

I've voted. Have you?

The biggest danger for a politician is to shake hands with a man who is physically stronger, has been drinking and is voting for the other guy.
William Proxmire

I picked this up over on Wensleys new blog. I'm going to be a bit impartial and not tell you who I've voted for. That said, get out there and vote.

If you're having any trouble at all deciding, check out my interview series. 23 of the aproximately 40 candidates gave interviews. I sent questions to all 40 of them.

Do me a favor and give Godlesswanderer a bit of traffic, he's the originator of the concept and image above.

Burning a Hull

I'm burning through the skies Yeah!
Two hundred degrees
That's why they call me Mister Fahrenheit
I'm traveling at the speed of light
I wanna make a supersonic woman out of you
Queen - Don't Stop Me Now

I've been killing Serpentis out in 0.0 for a few days now. Lets take a look at my Harpy. Tanking is keyed against Serpentis.

Lets also look at what I hope to use eventually:

This is a modification on an earlier build that had about half the DPS but double the tank against Serpentis.

I'll have to kick up Advanced Weapons Upgrades to 5 and Hybrid Turret Rigging up to 4 to get this to fit. I'll need to use the +5% powergrid implant as well. For those of you that wish to take issue with the use of void ammo, calling it unrealistic to base DPS figures on it, remember that I'm in a frigate shooting at cruisers, battlecruisers, and battleships.

My experiences with it so far are good.

Strategy is mostly straightforward. Ignore everything but the battleships(or battlecruisers if that's all you can find). Approach them with booster and MWD running. Once you hit about 10k, kick off the MWD(unless it's very near the end of a cycle). Pull into an orbit of 2250(with your MWD off, it'll settle into about 2600 Meters) and fire away. Watch local and wait.

I stocked up on nothing but Void before I left, but there are a few elite frigates that give me a bit of a problem by webbing me and then sitting at 9.5k. With maxed skills I can hit at over 11k with Iron charges. Right now they'd be just inside my range if I had any Iron charges. That brings me to the next issue.

I'm wondering if someone who flies transport ships would be willing to do a resupplying run out to where I am. I'm not that deep in 0.0 really. I'll pay you for your trouble. I think a single giant container ought to do the job. I'll load up the Ammo into the container in the nearest high sec system. You do your own scouting and you'll need to be online with me to give me the bookmark(or you can just fleet me and we'll go to the location together). Payment is upon my receipt of the goods. You'll need to be able to anchor the container. If you're interested, start a conversation with me ingame. Don't bother sending a mail, because we'll need to be online at the same time.

See you in space.

PS: This is Monday's Update a bit early. See you on Tuesday.

Behind Blue Eyes

Great. How did I end up as the bad guy here?
Duo Maxwell - Gundam Wing

Well, now that that is over with.

I think it's time I actually let you guys know about something I did last week. I'm no longer a member of the Bastards. There was no falling out. I didn't get bored. I didn't find something better.

I got tired of being a bad guy.

My personality doesn't lend itself well to piracy I think. I can enjoy it in the moment, while I'm flying. I can enjoy it when I write about it. Then I think about it and realize there are real people out there that were just trying to have some fun.

A war's different to me, we both know the stakes, we both know the risks. I joined up with the Gallente millitia, but I've yet to actually do anything in it.

I'm ratting up my sec status in 0.0 right now, and making a fair bit of money doing it. When I hit a sec status that lets me into high sec I'll probably get back to running missions for a while.

I had briefly toyed with limiting the blog to a post a week, but I decided against it. My traffic is important to me.

My fiction will continue it's current arc, and this gives me some creative options to work with.

Expect big changes in Hallan's life.

Good Day.

Remember Me

My oh my,
Couldn't get much higher,
Lets not kick out the darkness,
Make the light brighter.
Dave Stewart - American Prayer

I try to enjoy myself.

That isn't to say that I fail. It's just, there's always some worry wart, some angry person, or some frustrated individual out there to contend with. I like happy people. Who doesn't?

Even at my most cynical, I'll always enjoy making people laugh.

So I sit down in my Rifter, and I peruse the system for targets. A Hurricane, a Rupture, or an Archon. It doesn't matter. If there's people online to hear my battle cry, I'll go. They get a chuckle out of it and I enjoy myself. People need to learn to let go more often.

The problem I think, is that everyone thinks I don't care about losses. I do. It's impossible not to in a game that measures success by the wealth you acquire.

I don't like losing ships to forces outside of my control or extremely stupid mistakes on my part. I don't let it consume me though. I deal with it and move on.

If I tackle a non-criminal Carrier in my rifter on a station, I know I might die. I've done it anyhow before and I will again. Free killmails for them? Maybe, but it's also free fun for me.

It's still annoying to hear that little voice in your ear(and sometimes on Comms) that says "Oh man, why'd you have to go and do thaaat," every once in a while.

I respect your viewpoint, little voice in my head, but you're wrong to ask me that.

It's like that one guy said:

"I'm happy. I'm not worried. I'm not fearing anybody,"

Don't just fly it. Live it.
